CSH 2025 - How to get there

There are many options to get to Quebec City.

Bus

We encourage participants to use public transportation or carpooling whenever possible to get to the meeting. Many buses reach Quebec City. Depending on your location, here are a few departures from larger cities:

Ontario - Québec
  • If you're departing from Toronto, Megabus offers a Toronto-Montreal service (approx. 6.5 h). The Montreal-Quebec City portion of the trip is covered by Orléans Express (approx. 2 h).
  • If you're leaving from Ottawa: Orléans Express offers Ottawa-Montreal services. You'll need to connect with Orléans Express for the Montreal-Quebec City portion of the trip (approx. 2 h).
Other bus routes in the province
  • If you're leaving from the Saguenay or Côte-Nord regions, Intercar offers departures from several small towns.
  • If you're leaving from Montreal, Gaspésie, Mont-Tremblant, Trois-Rivières, or the Lower St-Lawrence, Orléans Express offers departures from several small towns.
  • If you're leaving from Sherbrooke, Limocar offers service to Montreal. The Montreal-Quebec City portion of the trip is covered by Orléans Express.
Using the bus to move around in Quebec City

The Quebec City Bus Transit (RTC) features several lines with regular service throughout weekdays and weekends. To get the latest schedules and plan your trip within Québec City, you can use the RTC site or Google Maps.

  • Bus line 807 runs on chemin Ste-Foy (North end of campus) and links the Ste-Foy Burrough to the Vieux-Québec.
  • The 800 and 801 lines run on boulevard Laurier and boulevard René-Lévesque (South end of campus). The latter two lines and many others stop on the Université Laval campus in front of the Alphonse-Desjardins Pavillion.

Train

VIARAIL remains the best option for long distances if you cross several provinces.

  • The Toronto-Quebec line takes 9.5 h, with a transfer in Montreal. For departures from the Maritimes, the Halifax-Montreal line offers service from many localities. Booking tickets for VIARAIL early will get you the lowest fares.

Carpool

Different carpooling platforms are available.

  • The most widely used car-sharing platform in Quebec is Amigoexpress. It connects Quebec City with destinations across Canada and the United States. Reservations are made online, with pre-authorized payment by credit card, debited automatically 24 h after the trip. Drivers can also choose to receive payment in cash, offering additional flexibility.

Car

Traveling with your own car is another option. Whenever possible, prioritize carpooling with other participants.

  • Quebec City is about a 2.5-h drive from Montreal, 5 h from Ottawa and 8 h from Toronto. It's a pleasant drive through a variety of landscapes, from agricultural plains to the wooded hills of central Quebec. From Montreal, take Autoroute 20 E or 40 E towards Quebec City, two highways with numerous rest areas and service stations. From Ottawa, take Highway 417 E to Montreal, then turn onto Autoroute 40 E to Quebec City. From Toronto, the most direct route is Highway 401 E to Montreal, then Autoroute 20 E or 40 E to your destination. From the Maritimes, you can hop on Route 2 from Moncton, Fredericton, or Edmundston, then take Autoroute 85 and eventually Autoroute 20 to get to Quebec city.

Plane

You can arrive directly at Quebec City's Jean Lesage International Airport (YQB).

  • Prioritize existing direct routes for local flights to the following cities: Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa or Montreal.
  • Another option is to arrive at Montreal Trudeau Airport (YUL) and take an express bus shuttle to downtown Quebec City.

From the Jean-Lesage International Airport, you can get to downtown Québec City by taxi and limousine, ride sharing, or by public transportation. Also note that certain hotels offer a shuttle service between the airport and hotel.
