Travel assistance

The CHS provides two types of bursaries in support of in-person conference attendance: student travel bursaries and conference attendance bursaries.

Student travel bursaries

Six student travel bursaries of 500$ are available for students who meet the following criteria:

  • Current member of CHS
  • Student currently enrolled at a Canadian educational institution
  • Presenting at the conference (12-minute presentation, 5-minute flash talk, poster)
  • Travelling greater than 500 km to the conference

Students wishing to apply for the travel bursary must indicate so in the appropriate section of the registration form and submit the form before 15 August 2025. Six recipients will be selected randomly among the candidates who meet the above criteria. The draw for the first three winners will take place on 23 July 2025. A second draw for an additional three winners will be conducted on 16 August 2025.

Conference attendance bursaries

The CHS is working towards becoming a more inclusive and welcoming space for all herpers. Six conference attendance bursaries of 500$ are offered in support of individuals with a significant barrier to attendance and part of a traditionally under-represented group in CHS. For example, this includes, but is not limited to, herpers identifying as racialized (particularly Black, Indigenous, and other herpers of colour), LGBTQ2S+, disabled, or individuals of low economic status. Students and post-docs who are applying for the Student Travel Bursary are welcome to apply for this Conference Attendance Bursary if they meet the criteria, though an individual may only win one Bursary per year. Applicants for the conference attendance bursaries do not need to be CHS members, be planning to present at the conference, or be planning to travel over a certain distance to the conference.

Please note that as part of the reporting during the annual general meeting, the number of conference attendance bursaries awarded will be shared with all CHS members. However, no personal information pertaining to the applicants or winners will be made public.

Persons wishing to apply for the conference attendance bursary must indicate so in the appropriate section of the registration form and submit the form before 15 August 2025. Six recipients will be selected randomly among the candidates who meet the above criteria. The draw for the first three winners will take place on 23 July 2025.
